I’m obsessed with this goat cheese, bacon and fig crostini appetizer. I served it to my family and it was a big hit.

This crostini recipe will sure to impress your guests, but is actually so easy to make and requires only four main ingredients.

The combination of a crunchy toasty baguette, creamy goat cheese, salty bacon and sweet fig butter will blow your mind. The perfect medley of tastes and textures all in one little bite.

This is the best appetizer to make for any event this holiday season, including Friendsgiving, Thanksgiving and Christmas. It’s an easy bite to grab and enjoy while mingling and it’s not too filling, allowing everyone to still enjoy the main meal!

Ingredients

Baguette: you will want a fresh and crusty French baguette. Try to purchase this the day you plan on making this recipe.
Goat cheese: also known as chevre, and can be found with other specialty cheeses in the grocery store.
Bacon: bacon adds a salty and savory flavor to these crostini that compliment the goat cheese and fig jam.
Fig jam or butter: fig butter is smoother and contains less sugar than fig jam; however, either option will work for this recipe. I used fig butter from Trader Joe’s.
Thyme, salt and pepper: these crostini are simply seasoned but the thyme adds that little extra something special to this recipe.

the five ingredients for the crostini

Equipment

Two baking sheets
Butter knife
Tablespoon
Serving platter

Instructions

Cook the bacon

My recommended cooking method for this is baking. Baking the bacon will cook the bacon evenly and it will remain flat, rather than curl, which will be helpful for this recipe.

Preheat the oven to 400°F and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Add 12 pieces of bacon to the pan with space between each piece.

Bake bacon for 15-18 minutes, depending on desired crispiness. Allow bacon to cool and then break each piece of bacon in half.

Toast the baguette

There are two options for toasting the baguette. You can either bake it or air fry it until golden and crispy.

Bake: lower oven to 375°F and line a second baking sheet with parchment paper. Add baguette slices to the baking sheet in a single layer.

Spray or brush each piece of baguette with olive oil.  Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until baguette is lightly golden brown and toasty.

Air Fry: add baguette to air fryer basket in a single layer. Spray or brush each piece of baguette with olive oil. Air fry at 350°F for 5-7 minutes, or until golden and crispy.

Assemble the crostini

Spread a generous amount of goat cheese (approximately 1-2 teaspoons) onto each baguette. Season with salt and pepper.

Place a half piece of bacon atop goat cheese. Layer one tablespoon fig butter or jam on top of bacon.

Sprinkle crostini with chopped fresh thyme.

Variations

  • Use a flavored chevre such as honey or herbed.
  • Try turkey bacon instead of regular bacon.
  • Mix chopped dried figs into fig butter or jam for extra texture.
  • Top crostini with pomegranate arils for a pop of color and a burst of fresh flavor.
  • Add a drizzle of honey for extra sweetness.
