Fig Prosciutto Pizza
Sweet fig jam, caramelized onions, salty prosciutto, mozzarella, and fresh arugula come together on this easy, restaurant-worthy fig prosciutto pizza.

If you love the combination of sweet and savory flavors, this Fig Prosciutto Pizza is one you need to try. A crisp pizza crust is layered with sweet fig jam, melty mozzarella, and caramelized sweet onions before being finished with salty prosciutto and fresh arugula.
It’s an easy pizza to make at home but feels a little more special than your typical pizza night. Serve it as a main dish with a simple salad, or slice it into smaller pieces and serve it as an appetizer.
Ingredients

Pizza dough: homemade or store-bought pizza dough both work well. Let refrigerated dough come to room temperature before stretching.
Fig jam: acts as the pizza sauce and provides the sweet flavor that pairs with the prosciutto. Fig jam is usually found in the specialty cheese section of the grocery store.
Mozzarella cheese: low-moisture mozzarella melts beautifully without making the pizza too wet.
Sweet onions: slowly caramelized until soft and golden, these add another layer of sweet and savory flavor.
Prosciutto: add it after baking so it stays delicate rather than becoming overly crisp.
Arugula: adds a fresh, peppery contrast to the sweet and salty toppings.
Equipment
Pizza pan
Pizza stone
Sauté pan
Cutting board and knife
Cheese grater

Instructions
- Heat a drizzle of olive oil in a skillet over medium-low heat. Add the thinly sliced onions and cook slowly for about 30-35 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they’re soft, golden brown, and caramelized. If they begin to brown too quickly, lower the heat.
- Heat your oven to 500°F or as hot as your oven safely allows. If using a pizza stone or steel, place it in the oven while it preheats.
- Let the dough sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes before stretching. On a lightly floured surface, gently stretch it into a roughly 12-inch circle. Brush the dough with oil and transfer to a pizza pan or directly onto the pizza stone. Par bake the dough for 5 minutes.
- Take the crust out of the oven and spread the fig jam over the top. Top with shredded mozzarella and caramelized onions.
- Slide the pizza directly onto the stone and cook for 8-10 minutes, or until the crust is golden and crisp and the cheese is melted and bubbling. Cooking time will vary depending on your oven and the thickness of the crust.
- Remove the pizza from the oven and top with prosciutto and arugula.

Tips
- The key to really flavorful caramelized onions is cooking them slowly over low to medium-low heat.
- For a quicker dinner that is ready in 20 minutes, you can caramelize the onions ahead of time.
- Fig jam is concentrated and sweet, so you don’t need much. Too much can make the pizza overly sweet.
- Add prosciutto after baking to keep it tender and for best taste.
- Don’t overload the pizza. A lighter layer of toppings allows the crust to become crisp and prevents the pizza from becoming soggy.
- Letting the pizza stone or steel heat for at least 20-30 minutes will give you a much crispier crust.
Substitutions
Fig jam: Try fig preserves or a fig spread. If you can’t find fig jam, apricot preserves make a great alternative.
Mozzarella: Fresh mozzarella, burrata, or a blend of mozzarella and fontina can be used.
Sweet onions: Yellow onions, Vidalia onions, or shallots can be caramelized in their place. Prosciutto: Try thinly sliced speck or crispy pancetta for a slightly different flavor.
Pizza dough: Store-bought dough makes this recipe quick and easy, while homemade dough is perfect if you have extra time.
