This coconut lime margarita is the best cocktail to welcome spring and summer. This margarita is creamy, refreshing and sweet but not too sweet.
I love this margarita because it is easy to make at home but impressive and requires just five ingredients. The recipe makes one drink, but it is easy to double, triple or even quadruple the recipe to make for friends.
This coconut lime margarita is the perfect cocktail to serve for Cinco de Mayo, at a backyard BBQ, pool party or on vacation!
Ingredient Notes
Tequila: you canโt have a margarita without tequila! Use your favorite quality blanco (silver) tequila. Blanco tequila is clear.
Triple Sec: triple sec is an orange flavored liqueur. The flavor compliments the flavors of the tequila, lime and coconut. Cointreau is a popular brand of triple sec you can use; however, you can use any brand of triple sec.
Lime: fresh squeezed lime juice is used in the cocktail while the lime zest is used on the rim of the glass along with salt and sugar.
Coconut cream: coconut cream makes this cocktail rich, creamy and tropical. I used the kind that comes in the can but you can also use cream of coconut.
Agave: adds just a touch of sweetness. Alternatively, you can use simple syrup or you can omit if you do not want a sweet margarita.
Salt and sugar: for the rim only and is optional.

- Try the mocktail version of this margarita: use zero proof tequila and instead of triple sec, use a splash of orange juice.
Tips
- Place your glasses in the freezer 30 minutes before making your cocktail to keep your drink colder for longer.
- For best flavor, use freshly squeezed lime juice vs juice that comes from a bottle.
- For the best creamy consistency, use coconut cream or cream of coconut vs coconut milk as coconut cream’s higher fat content makes it much creamier.
